Tricor
Description
Tricor (chemical name is fenofibrate) tablets can help lower blood fats (called triglycerides) and cholesterol for people who are at risk of getting inflammation of the pancreas (pancreatitis) from having very high amounts of fats in their blood.
Recommendations
Take fenofibrate tablets by mouth. Follow the directions on the prescription label. Swallow the tablets with a drink of water. Take your dose each day at a regular time. You may take Tricor with or without food. Take your doses at regular intervals. Do not take your medicine more often than directed. Contact your pediatrician or health care professional regarding the use of this medicine in children. Special care may be needed.
Precautions
Before taking fenofibrate, tell your doctor if you have liver disease, biliary cirrhosis, kidney disease, gallbladder disease, hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid gland), or diabetes.
You may not be able to take fenofibrate, or you may require a dosage adjustment or special monitoring during treatment if you have any of the conditions listed above.
Fenofibrate is in the FDA pregnancy category C. This means that it is not known whether fenofibrate will be harmful to an unborn baby. Do not take fenofibrate without first talking to your doctor if you are pregnant or could become pregnant during treatment.
Fenofibrate should not be used by nursing mothers. Do not take fenofibrate without first talking to your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
