Sinequan (generic name: doxepin; brand names include: Aponal / Deptran / Doneurin / Doxin / Mareen / Quitaxon / Sinepin / Spectra / Xepin) belongs to a class of drugs known as tricyclic antidepressants.

Sinequan is primarily used for the treatment of depression. It may be used in patients with major depression, anxiety disorder, insomnia, alcohol and drug withdrawal and some other conditions.

Sinequan was shown to be safe and well tolerated in elderly patients.

Recommendations

Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Sinequan exactly as directed.

Your doctor will tell how much Sinequan you need to take. The usual starting dose is 75 mg daily. This starting dose may be lower for elderly patients.

The usual duration of treatment is 6 months. Like with other antidepressants, it may take up to 2-3 weeks for the full effect of Sinequan to be seen.

Precautions

Tell your doctor before taking Sinequan, if:

you are allergic to any medicines;
you are taking any other medicines for depression;
you have heart, liver or kidney problems; or glaucoma;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
