Relafen
Description
Relafen (generic name: Nabumetone; brand name: Relifex) belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Relafen is used for treating:
Osteoarthritis (disease affecting the joints)
Rheumatoid arthritis (chronic, inflammatory autoimmune disorder that causes the immune system to attack the joints)
Relafen works by reducing chemicals that cause inflammation and pain in the body and so reduces swelling, pain and inflammation.
Relafen has been shown to have a slightly lower risk of gastrointestinal side effects than most other non-selective NSAIDs.
Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Relafen exactly as directed.
Take Relafen by mouth. It may be taken with or without food. Relafen tablets should be swallowed whole without chewing.
Take Relafen with a full glass of water (8 oz/240 mL) or as directed by your doctor.
If you miss a dose of Relafen and you are taking it regularly, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Keep Relafen at room temperature, away from light and moisture.
Precautions
Before taking Relafen, tell your doctor if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you have stomach ulcer; liver, kidney, or heart problems; or asthma;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
