Prometrium
Description
Prometrium (generic name: progesterone; brand names include: Puregest) is micronized (made easier for the body to process) progesterone made exclusively from yam plant sources.
Prometrium is bio-identical to progesterone and can supply a woman's need for progesterone. Progesterone is a female sex hormone, which is essential for the function of the reproductive system.
Prometrium is used for protecting the lining of the uterus in certain women who are also taking estrogen. It is used to treat certain women who do not have a menstrual period because of decreased progesterone in the body. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Take Prometrium exactly as directed.
Take Prometrium by mouth with or without food.
If you miss a dose of Prometrium, take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
Keep Prometrium in a cool dry place, away from direct heat and light.
Precautions
Before taking Prometrium, tell your doctor if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you suffer from breast or cervical cancer or have a family history of this condition; or you have thrombosis;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
