Nasonex
Description
Nasonex (generic name: Mometasone furoate) is a nasal allergy medication.
Taken just once a day, Nasonex helps relieve nasal allergy symptoms, such as congestion, sneezing, and an itchy or runny nose.
Nasonex can treat outdoor and year-round indoor nasal allergy symptoms in patients 2 years of age and older.
It is also used to help prevent most seasonal nasal allergy symptoms before they start in patients 12 years and older, when taken 2 to 4 weeks before the start of allergy season.
In addition, for patients 18 years and older, Nasonex can treat nasal polyps and help reduce the nasal congestion/obstruction they can cause.
For nasal allergy symptoms, once-a-day use of Nasonex provides day and nighttime relief. Nasonex is effective and has a proven safety profile.
Nasonex treats symptoms of both perennial (or indoor) and seasonal (or outdoor) nasal allergies - symptoms caused by allergens like dust mites, pet dander, mold, tree and grass pollen and others. Improvement can occur within 11 hours of initial treatment (based on single-dose studies done in a park during the pollen season and in a controlled pollen exposure room). The full benefit of Nasonex is usually achieved within 1 to 2 weeks.
Nasonex is non-habit forming and non-drowsy.
Recommendations
Follow the directions for using this medicine provided by your doctor. Use Nasonex exactly as directed.
To be effective, Nasonex must be used regularly. Use it around the same time each day (every 24 hours). Do not skip days, even if your nasal allergy symptoms are under control. If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember.
Keep using Nasonex even if you still have nasal allergy symptoms within the first 2 weeks. The maximum benefit is usually achieved in 1 to 2 weeks.
If you are using Nasonex to help prevent seasonal (outdoor pollen) nasal allergy symptoms, start treatment about 2 to 4 weeks before allergy season begins.
If you are using another medication that is also given by nasal inhalation, ask your doctor which medication you should use first, and how long you should wait between the medications.
Before you use Nasonex for the first time, you need to prime the pump. Hold the bottle in the air, and squeeze the pump 10 times or until a fine mist appears. If you have not used the Nasonex bottle for more than 1 week, reprime the pump by spraying it twice before using it.
Contact your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after you start using Nasonex, or if you think you may be experiencing a side effect.

Precautions
Tell your doctor before using Nasonex, if:
you are allergic to any medicines;
you are pregnant or breast-feeding.
